PANELKOTE

Cement Based Patching and Smoothing Compound

PANELKOTE is a cementitious based, smoothing compound used over autoclaved aerated concrete panels and oversized blocks to level the surface of the panels or blocks for the purpose of decoration. PANELKOTE can also provide a decorative finish for the interior side of the panels or oversized blocks.

Advantages High build coating thickness of 1mm
Water resistant
High water vapor permeability
Easy to Use

Preparation
All bases to receive PANELKOTE must be clean, and free of grease, oil, dirt, paint and other foreign residues.
Mixing Mix one 55 lb. bag with approximately 1 1/2 gallons of clean water for 5 minutes. Only mix enough that can be used within 1 to 2 hours.
Application For AAC panels, horizontal V shaped joints may be filled with PANELKOTEto provide a monolithic surface prior to decoration. A six inch piece of reinforcing fiberglass mesh must be embedded in the Panelkote over the joints. The Panelkote should then be feathered onto the surface of the panels. PANELKOTE may also be used to smooth and even rough panel surfaces.

Using a broad knife or steel trowel, PANELKOTE should be applied 3/32" - 1/8" thick in a single coat by first applying approximately 1/16" of PANELKOTE to achieve the leveling of the surface, then "doubling back", with light coat of PANELKOTE to provide the final smoothing of the surface prior to decorating.

Once the PANELKOTE has set, it can be sanded, or a decorative splatter texture of PANELKOTE can be applied using a hand held hopper gun or similar texturing tool. The splatter texture should then be "knocked down" with a broad knife or flat trowel.

After the PANELKOTE has dried, it is ready for an appropriate finish coating.

Reinforcing mesh should be embedded in the PANELKOTE over any dissimilar substrates, routed areas, and on all inside corners. Cornerbead should be used on outside corners.

In construction using AAC oversized blocks, PANELKOTE may only be used on the interior. Reinforcing fiberglass mesh must be used over all head joints. For maximum crack resistance, fiberglass mesh may be embedded in the PANELKOTE over the entire wall.

Precautions To prevent cold joints, apply coating finish in complete areas and schedule stops at naturally occurring breaks and joints. If uneven cold joints occur, they may be sanded smooth. Do not apply if temperature is expected to drop below 40° F within 24 hours of application. PANELKOTE is not recommended over normal sized blocks because of the greater basecoat thickness required.
Drying Time Depending upon temperature, humidity, and application thickness, PANELKOTE will cure in 24 to 48 hours.
Cleaning Immediately after use, rinse with water. Protect other surfaces from contact with coating.
